Burnie Tournament wins Award!!

THE Burnie Tennis Club was a finalist in the Australian Tennis awards presented at a gala function in Melbourne on Friday night - 3/12/10.

The McDonald's Burnie International was one of three finalists in Australia's  "Most Outstanding Tournament" category. Other finalists for the award where Cliffs Esperance International (Western Australia) and Cairns International Pro Tour (Queensland).

To be nominated and then to win the award, is a terrific recognition for the McDonald's Burnie International and a great credit to the hundreds of volunteers involved in the event.

The Most Outstanding Tournament award was presented at the inaugural Newcombe Medal, Australia Tennis Awards function which also  featured the Newcombe Medal being presented to Australia's most outstanding elite player. This was awarded to Sam Stosur in recognition of her outstanding performances in 2010.

The Burnie Tennis Club was represented at the awards night by international committee chairman Anthony Johnstone and Board member Shane Looney.

The McDonald's Burnie international is part of the Australian Pro Tour Circuit. The 2011 event will run from January 29th to February 5th.
