Top seed survives against wildcard

GZemlga3Top seed, Slovenian Grega Zemlja, survived several match points in the third set to progress to the quarter finals in the 2010 McDonalds Burnie International.

Zemlja won the first set 7-5 against wildcard James Lemke of Australia but Lemke hit back in the second with his consistency and great defence forcing the match into a third taking the second set 6-4. 

 Zemlja looked in danger of making an early exit when he faced several match points against his serve at 4-5.  After holding serve Zemlja then forced the set into a tie break in which he won 7-3 to make the quarter finals.  Zemlja will now face the winner of the match between Bernard Tomic and Nick Lindahl which was due to be played this evening.  This match has been postponed due to rain and will be played on Friday morning AEDT.

Australia’s wildcard Dayne Kelly won his second round match in a tight two set match over second seed Guillaume Rufin of France. Both sets were decided by a tie breaker with Kelly take the first 7-3 and the second 8-6.  Kelly will now face Japan’s Yuichi Sugita in the quarter final’s after Sugita defeated fellow countryman Tatsuma Ito.  The match was decided in straight sets 7-5 6-3.

In tomorrow’s matches Bernard Tomic will be up against Nick Lindahl to complete the second round which will be played at around 12.00pm AEDT.
Canadian, Pierre-Ludovic Duclos will be up against veteran Jo Sirianni in the first quarter final match.  Greg Jones will face John Millman in the other quarter final.
