Australia’s Chris Guccione and Bernard Tomic have won their way through to the quarter finals with comfortable wins over their opponents on day 3 of the Burnie International.
Guccione was dominate throughout his match against Japanese player, Yuichi Sugita, holding his serve comfortably and Guccione was able to break his opponents serve once in each set to win in straight sets, 6-4 6-3.Bernard Tomic was also impressive by defeating fellow Australian Matthew Ebden on centre court winning in two tight sets. Tomic cruised through the first set winning 6-3 and was tested in the second set by Ebden who had chances to force the set into the third but Tomic was too good on the important points to close it out 7-5.
Earlier in the day, second seed, Paolo Lorenzi of Italy was too good once again and also progresses with a win over Australian wildcard, James Lemke in straight sets 6-4 6-2.
In other matches, another Italian, Flavio Cipolla, was successful in defeating Canadian Phillip Bester in straight sets 6-3 6-4.
Australian junior, Benjamin Mitchell, a qualifier, got over the top of Canadian Erik Chvojka winning in three tough sets 3-6 6-1 6-4.
Number 8 seed, Tatsuma Ito got over the top of Canadian, Peter Polansky winning in straight sets 6-4 6-4.
Slovakian, Pavol Cervenak won a tough three setter against Australian qualifier, Joel Lindner, 6-2 3-6 6-1.
Finally, James Ward of Great Britain took out the highly credentialed Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic winning in three tight sets 7-5 4-6 6-3.
