Australia’s Olivia Rogowska has advanced to the quarter finals on day 3 of the Burnie International with a comprehensive win over Russian junior Irina Khromacheva winning in straight sets 6-4 6-1.

Rogowska is the only seed left in the draw after the number 3 seed, Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey was knocked out by Slovenian junior Nastja Kolar in three sets 6-4 4-6 6-2.

Caroline Garcia of France, the number 6 seed was also knocked out going down to the number 2 junior in the world, Daria Gavrilova of Russia in three tough sets 6-4 2-6 7-6(3)

Qualifier Eugenie Bouchard from Canada, also a top junior, continued her excellent form defeating Isabella Holland in straight sets 6-4 6-1.

In the bottom half of the draw, Emily Webley-Smith of Great Britain won through to the quarter finals by defeating Australia’s Tammi Patterson, who retired due to injury when Webley-Smith was leading 6-1 in the first set.  Karolina Wlodarcak, won the all Australian affair on centre court against number 4 seed, Jessica Moore with a straight sets victory 7-6 6-4.  Another qualifier, Chinese junior player Saisai Zheng, was too good for Australia’s Sophie Letcher, who failed to back up her performance yesterday in defeating the defending champion Arina Rodionova, winning in straight sets 6-4 6-1.

Late in the evening, junior qualifier Yulia Putintseva of Russia progressed in three tough sets, defeating number 7 seed Chiaki Okadaue.  Interestingly, the match was played on three different courts, with the first set played on court 10 until bad light forced the players to court 14 to play the second set under lights.  The third set was then moved to centre court to complete the match with the Russian closing the match out.
