Bernard Tomic and Chris Guccione will meet in the semi finals of the McDonald’s Burnie International.
In the other semi finals clash Italy's Flavio Cipolla will meet Tatsuma Ito of Japan.
Guccione was in great touch against the number two seed, Paolo Lorenzi on centre court. Guccione was in complete control on serve against Lorenzi which put enormous pressure on his opponent. Guccione was able to break once in each set to advance in straight sets, 6-3 6-3.
Tomic win was not as convincing against talented Australian, Benjamin Mitchell. Tomic took the first set 6-3 but faltered in the second as Mitchell played great aggressive tennis to take the second set 6-3. The final set was a real test for Tomic after getting the early break, Mitchell then got the break back and an upset was on the cards. Games were on serve and at 5-4 in Tomic’s favour, Tomic was able to break Mitchell in the 10th to advance to the semis.
In the other quarter final, Italy’s Flavio Cipolla was very impressive in his straight sets win over Slovakian, Pavol Cervenak winning 6-1 6-2. Cipolla will meet Japan’s Tatsuma Ito in the other semi final after Ito ended Great Britain’s James Ward’s tournament with a 6-4 6-4 victory.
